Description
"The Marsh" - originally photographed spring 2016 in Northwest Missouri at the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge established in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. Squaw Creek is home to the rare loess hills lining the Missouri river floodplain. Loess, pronounced "luss," is ancient, wind-blown soil. These hills support remnants of Missouri's native prairie, including Indian grass, big bluestem, blazing star, compass plant, yucca, beard-tongue, and skeleton plant.
